A brand new house in Bowdon, designed from the plans rather than from the finished rooms. The clients were a young family, and they were adventurous: happy to be shown an idea they had not asked for and to back it.
The media wall is the clearest example. Its decorative panels are backlit tiles, which is not a thing most people picture when they imagine a wall with a television on it, and it became the feature of the room.
A modern scheme that will not date
The brief was modern, and modern in a way that will still look considered in ten years. Shades of grey and taupe are the backbone of every colour scheme in the house, punctuated with colour in the scatter cushions and accessories, which is where colour can be changed cheaply when tastes move on.
Layouts are simple and the furniture is high quality rather than plentiful. No fuss, no clutter: a family house that is easy to live in and easy to keep looking right.
Designing a new build in Bowdon
Bowdon is where the showroom is, so a project a few streets away runs with more showroom visits and fewer site visits than most: the fabrics, wallpapers, veneers and stone are looked at in daylight, five minutes from the house they are going into.
New builds are their own kind of brief. The rooms are square, the finishes are neutral and correct, and everything that gives the house character has to be designed into it rather than found there. A media wall like this one is exactly that job.
