A bedroom in Knutsford for our client’s daughter, with two briefs to satisfy at once. The teenager wanted lighting effects and something unusual. Her father wanted a room that would not date, and that could become an elegant guest bedroom when she had moved on.

Colours taken from the garden

The backdrop is neutral: a warm taupe and stone. The accent colours, green and gold, link the room visually to the garden outside the window, and that idea is carried further into the glass leaves suspended at different heights in waves above the bed.

The ceiling panel they hang from is painted in a contrasting colour to give the feature its definition. The leaves are hand made in various shapes and finishes, from semi-transparent to metallic, in amber, gold and green. The effect is eye-catching without being overpowering, and it is the thing everyone asks about.

A compact room that does not feel small

A textured Roman blind with a faint leaf design, an organic-shaped wall-hung console table and an abstract mirror above it do the work of furnishing without taking floor space. Bronze tones add richness and depth to the neutral scheme.

The wall behind the bed carries more lighting effects, combined with a textured wall covering that mimics bare branches, and a softer, plainer wallpaper on the remaining walls finishes the room off.

There is a great deal going on in a compact bedroom, and none of it makes the room feel smaller. It will not date, and it will make a very good guest room when the time comes.

Bedrooms in Knutsford and across Cheshire

Knutsford is about twenty minutes from the showroom in Bowdon, and a single room like this is a perfectly normal piece of work to bring to us. Not every project is a whole house.

A room with two briefs in it, one from a teenager and one from a parent thinking ten years ahead, is a good example of what a scheme is for: the features that carry the room are the ones that will still read as elegant when the posters come down.
